Brief

The International Day of the Girl, established in 2012 and celebrated every October 11, marks a global commitment to advancing gender equality and spotlighting the challenges girls face, with child marriage as the focus of its inaugural theme. Despite early progress and global pledges, child marriage remains a critical issue—exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, conflict, and economic hardship—threatening millions more girls worldwide. As the 10th anniversary in 2022 served as a wakeup call to all sectors, a new adolescent-friendly report was released, offering groundbreaking data on the impact of conflict on child marriage and in-depth interviews with over 600 girls and young women married in childhood, aiming to empower girl advocates with evidence and insights.
